Accessing Photoshop as an image editing program
The easiest way to get to Photoshop is to download it from its Web site. At the time of this writing, the software is free for a time period that varies from one month to a year (sign up at the site for more details).
If you plan to purchase the software, you have two options: pay the full retail price, or become a member of the Photoshop Creative Cloud service. This option includes the software and regular updates throughout the life of the program, as well as any upgrades or fixes. Pricing varies depending on how much time you commit to the program, and ranges from a regular monthly or annual subscription to one-time payments for an annual fee.
The program is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and iOS.
To use Photoshop as an image editor, do the following:
1. Launch Photoshop on your computer.
2. Locate the (originals), (Photoshop) swatch, and (layers) swatch in the tool palette.
This means you’re in the image editing mode of the program.
3. Select the layer named Photo and then click the Add Layer button.
This step adds an empty layer to your Photoshop file.
4. Click the New Layer icon to create a new layer.
The New Layer icon is the background-colored box with the arrow in the upper-left corner of the window (refer to Figure 12-2). When you have a blank layer, place the cursor over the top of the box and move the cursor down so that the New Layer icon moves with it.
**Figure 12-2:** The top icon is used to add a new layer, and the New Layer button is in the lower-right corner of the screen.
5. Add the picture that you want to manipulate.
Any picture can be added to a layer by placing the cursor over its thumbnail icon (you can also right-click and choose Add to Layers from the context menu).
6. Use the tools at your disposal to alter your image, making adjustments for your project.
7. Save your file after making any changes.
Your changes are saved in the Photoshop file, but your Photoshop file is not saved automatically unless you tell it to. To save, click the Save icon, located on
Adobe Photoshop Elements
Adobe Photoshop Elements is a graphics program that comes with Windows, macOS and mobile devices. With this software you will be able to edit, create and organize your pictures.
Visible areas can be defined by color and shape, and therefore you can outline parts of your image. Color selection allows you to change specific colors and tone. The editing tools enable you to make color adjustments, geometric transformations and clipping masks.
You can also use the smooth-shade control, which simulates shadows, highlights and other effects. To make the most of your images, you can use the adjustment layers, which help you create and apply tonal effects, remove unwanted objects and more.
You can also create your own layers and files, to open and save your images. If you want to create other files with different formats, you can create a PDF file, an EPS file or a SWF.
There are also various filters to add special effects. You can also use the effect presets, which are similar to the ones of Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop.

OpenSPARC installation issue
I’m trying to install OpenSPARC on an SunFire X4200. I downloaded the installation CD v220.127.116.11 from this page: Nothing new there.
I’m running Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.
I was able to install IRIX 6.5 64bit in the past.
The new CD has no option for Ubuntu.
How do I install OpenSPARC?
The result of try to open the CD ROM and run the install script sh -x openflow.sh gives me this:
X4200-300-A-01:~ # sh -x openflow.sh
/usr/libexec/opensearch/sparcconfig/get_opensearch.sh –argv “10” /usr/libexec/opensearch/sparcconfig/get_opensearch.sh –argv “1” /usr/lib/opensearch/sparcconfig/get_opensearch.sh: 13: /usr/lib/opensearch/sparcconfig/get_opensearch.sh: get_opensearch.sh: not found
Usage: /usr/lib/opensearch/sparcconfig/get_opensearch.sh –argv
Should I install IRIX or Ubuntu? I need something that works.
Sun no longer supports OpenSPARC. If you want to buy a new system instead of building your own, or if you’re in the IaaS world, something like Amazon’s EC2 or Microsoft’s Azure are better.
For desktop/embedded/cloud computing, there’s no reason to use OpenSPARC if you’re using Ubuntu and Debian.
Sun has abandoned their license with the OpenSPARC CPU. Therefore it is unlikely that OpenSPARC will ever be supported again. Other communities have moved on to other instructions sets and architectures.

Puerto Rico Red Sox Third baseman Colin Moran got his first hit as an affiliate of the New York Yankees with their Class-A Columbia Fireflies on Wednesday, July 17.
On the night of his 22nd birthday, the right-handed hitting Moran is batting.167 with a.243 on-base percentage. He has knocked in just three runs and stolen just one base over 11 games. His former organization the Toronto Blue Jays wanted to send him back to Triple-A Syracuse, but new GM Brian Cashman overruled them and said he instead went to Carolina and got some more at-bats. In his first game since being promoted, Moran went hitless again.
Moran, drafted in the second round of the 2012 June amateur draft, is the third former Blue Jays player to play in Carolina this season, joining first baseman Luke Gregerson and catcher Alex Avila.
Gregerson, acquired in the trade that sent R.A. Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays in November, started his major league career with the Yankees on Wednesday, July 17. The lefty-swinging Gregerson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and hit a double in his debut.
Avila, a former supplemental first round pick, has played in six games as he adjusts to the pros. Avila hit a solo home run in his first major league at-bat.
On Wednesday, July 17, Moran was not pleased that he was being shuffled between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays organization on his birthday.
“I’m 22 years old and I’m playing minor league baseball,” Moran told Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. “It’s more than an ordinary birthday. I had a little more than a 2 to 3 percent chance of playing at this level in the major leagues and getting a hit on my birthday, and it happened. I’m happy I got to do that. It would have been nice to get a hit on my birthday.”
Like Gregerson, Moran has put up a solid spring. He hit a home run on Wednesday, his first as an affiliate of the Yankees, and is batting.308 with four homers and 10 RBIs through 13 games this spring.
Moran batted just.241 with a.297 on-base percentage in 109 games last season at the high Class-A Dunedin Blue Jays. During his brief
