* **Resolution vs. pixel count:** Pixel counts are measured as an exact number of dots that make up a single pixel on the printed page. Resolution is an even more exact measure of how clear an image is. Resolution refers to the physical size of a single dot and how many dots there are per unit area.

In _view_ mode (which you access when you zoom in on a photo or click the Lens icon on the top of the photo window), Photoshop displays pixels for each dot and for each line. The larger pixels, or dots, represent greater detail; with smaller dots, the image is less detailed. Resolution is measured in dots per inch (dpi), which is equivalent to the number of dots that make up a single inch on the printed page. For example, a dpi setting of 300 is commonly used for photographs that print at a size of 4 x 6 inches. In turn, a resolution of 300 dpi represents a dot for each 1/300 of an inch.

The size of the image when it is viewed on the screen is also measured in pixels. The program automatically adjusts the pixels per inch setting for you so that the size displayed onscreen is the same as the size you want on the printed page.

* **Document histogram:** When you start a new file or open an existing file from within Photoshop, you see the document histogram (Figure 5-10, here; the second histogram is shown in the Installed Photoshop Extensions dialog box, available from the File menu or by choosing Window⇒Document Histogram”), left). The histogram displays the amount of detail in an image as a bar graph. The left of the graph displays the brightness of the pixels (the black end of the bar), and the right end shows the darkness of the pixels (the white end of the bar). The light end of the bar represents details with a light value (that is, a high percentage of white areas); the right end of the bar represents details with a dark value (that is, a high percentage of black areas). The graph’s center represents an average value between light and dark.

To see the histogram when you’re working on a file, click the Histogram button in the status bar, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+H (Windows) or Command+H (Mac).

Here are three things to note about the document histogram:

Adobe Photoshop is a popular graphics and image editing application for macOS, Windows, OS X and Linux. It is regarded as one of the most useful tools for professional and amateur photographers, graphic designers, and people who are experimenting with photography or graphics. In this article, you’ll learn everything you need to know about Photoshop. But let’s start with a quick tour of Photoshop.

Photoshop: One-click editing

At the top of Photoshop’s user interface there is an arrow and a button that allow you to quickly switch between functions. We’ll show you how to customize the function buttons in Photoshop.

Navigation pane

The navigation pane is where we go to open, move, cut, copy, and paste the files and documents inside Photoshop. To open the navigation pane, press D on your keyboard. The navigation pane is your main tool to quickly find the file that you want to open and to drag images, folders, and documents inside Photoshop. If you feel the need to find an exact file, there is a search bar at the bottom of the navigation pane to find the file. The search bar uses regular expressions to search for the text inside the file and then list all the similar results.

Determine degree of extension field

Let $F$ be a field of order $5$ and $L$ be a subfield of $F$ of order $3$.
I want to find the degree of the extension $L/F$.
If we had subfields $K$ and $L$ of $F$, I know I can write $\dim_F(L/K)$ as follows:
$$\dim_F(L/K) = \dim_F(F/K) – \dim_F(F/L)$$
But what to do when I’m working with subfields of a field of different order, such as the above situation?
I’m pretty sure there’s something similar to $\dim_F(F/K)$, but I’m not sure how to use it.

The short answer is that the extension $F \subseteq L$ is always a degree $[F:F’]$ extension, where $[F:F’]$ is the degree of the field $F’$ over $F$. We have $[F:F’] = [L:F] \cdot [F:F] = [L:F] = (3) \cdot 5 = 15$.

How to Get Out of a Diaper Bum

Thoughts from a white mom of biracial children

My hands can no longer abide the feel of another person, not even the soft comfort of my own infant. I am weak and my self-confidence is wavering. My body aches to see a person else’s child (you know, the ones who’ve had more than a day of sleep).

I need to see a person else’s child.

I crave — desperately, and I know it’s irrational — the sweet comfort of a hands-on, eyes-on baby. Of an eager, forgiving child. I need to be held by a parent, or by a family member. I need someone to take care of me.

There is a woman next to me.

She’s a petite twentysomething, cozily rocking a full-term pregnancy. She’s a study in motherly calm. Her children prattle around her, and she talks to them so softly and pleasantly that they actually want to come and sit on

Paul Dunn (director)

Paul Dunn (born October 31, 1950) is an American theatrical director, producer and writer. He is an alumnus of Yale University.

The play has been staged at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (New York), the National Theatre of Scotland (Edinburgh), and the Théâtre national de Chaillot in Paris.

Dunn’s most recent stage production, The Blind Swimmer, is a musical version of a play by Jean Genet. The composer is Steve Gonson, and the book writer is James O’Toole, who wrote The Lieutenant of Inishmore with Dunn. The musical premiered at the Pleasance Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2010. It has been staged at the Southwark Playhouse in Southwark, London, in 2011, at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich, England, in 2012, at the University of Delaware in 2012, and at the Arcola Theatre in London.

Dunn’s other plays, all written with Aaron Posner, include Against My Nature, Sixty of Them and Muddy Waters. For over a decade, these plays have been developed at The Bush Street Theater in New York City, and have been seen at the Yale Repertory Theater, The Performance Space at St. Ann’s Warehouse, and at The La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.

In 2003, Dunn collaborated with Posner on Bless Me, Ultima, a dramatization of the 1943 séance at which the medium Alan Gauld sought the intercession of the Virgin Mary for the victims of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The play explores the role of the Catholic Church, and has been a collaboration between Dunn and Posner for 10 years. It won three Obie Awards: The Dora Mavor Moore Award (Outstanding Off-Broadway Play), The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize (Best American Play), and The McKnight Award (Best American Play).

Dunn has also directed the UK and Irish touring production of The Gospel at Colonus, by William Butler Yeats, starring Gary Sinise, Linus Roache, and Jack Davenport.
