If you are unfamiliar with layers, from Photoshop’s original release in 1990 until recently, you could not create layers. Many Photoshop beginners get frustrated when layers suddenly appear in newer versions. For complete details on the layer system, check out Chapter 2.

# Beginning Photoshop

Photoshop CS5 offers new features and functional improvements. These features include ways to import special formats of digital photographs as images (such as JPEGs), the ability to import images from other programs or the web, an image browser with a new feature called Content-Aware Move, the ability to edit color with color profiles, and much more.

This chapter focuses on the import and the editing of images. You will learn how to:

* Create new images and apply special effects
* Get new content from the web into Photoshop
* Display image files in folders and folders
* Work with color profiles

The ability to import images into Photoshop is the biggest difference between earlier versions of Photoshop and the latest version. Photoshop now offers direct import of digital images in three formats: TIFF, JPEG, and other formats. You can also import pictures from the web, as well as from other programs such as Kodak’s DCS software and Adobe’s own Creative Suite 3.

You can add special effects to your images, too. The most common special effect is to convert an image to black-and-white, a process called black-and-white conversion. You can also add other special effects, such as an “oil painting” effect, an “old-fashioned sepia” tone, and more.

## Creating Images and Animating Graphics with Layers

Most of the edits you make in Photoshop start with an image. You can create a new image on the left side of the Photoshop screen by choosing File⇒New, or you can open an existing image and continue working on it.

If you haven’t installed Photoshop before, it asks you to select a destination for the software. Click the Use This Folder icon to use the default settings or to choose another location.

When you’re ready, you’ll see a window with your desktop and the programs you have installed. Next to the programs is a button that says Launch Photoshop. Click it to launch Photoshop. The Tools Menu

The main edit tools in Photoshop are located in the main menu bar. They’re the buttons with black icons with angled lines on them.

Click the buttons as shown in the graphic below, and a pop-up window appears. If you hover over one of the icons in the toolbar, you’ll see a number next to it to tell you what the tool does. The icons look like this:

If you click these icons, the menu bar will look like this:

Each of the tools has a different set of options. Let’s take a look at each of them.

The Pencil tool

The Pencil tool is your basic tool. You can use it to draw shapes, text, or images on an image. It’s an important tool that’s used very frequently.

The Pencil tool does exactly what it sounds like. You click it and drag, and a line comes out

making the minimum length of values in a variable

I need to make it so that only certain chars are allowed in a certain variable.
my $a = ((3)x*(4))/”

The minimum length will be 3, so i need to make it only allow characters from the A-Z. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this with Perl regular expressions, or is there a good method for doing this?

perl -MSmartMatch -ple ‘print length/e while(/[A-Z]{3}[^A-Z]/g)’

You don’t actually need a regular expression for this. Just read from STDIN and write to STDOUT.
(note also that this fails if there’s a linefeed after the 3 in A-Z. If that’s the case, you might use /^[A-Z]{3}\s*$/ instead, or /^\s*[A-Z]{3}\s*$/. These regular expressions will match the space at the start and end of a line, and, given that, disallow any character other than A-Z.)

Indian government has ordered time-bound measures to end violent protests in Jammu and Kashmir that have killed a young man and left dozens of others injured.

The government of India has also ordered policemen to use minimum force when dealing with protests in the restive region, local media reported.

Friday’s court ruling in Srinagar, the main city in Indian-administered Kashmir, largely nullified the decades-old special status given to the Muslim-majority region under an agreement that ended the armed rebellion against Indian rule.

Jammu and Kashmir state is also a federal territory, and ruled directly by Indian government.

On Thursday, millions of people in Indian-administered Kashmir joined the protests calling for autonomy in the Muslim-majority region.

The demonstrators are mainly locals in Srinagar city, but also include students and those from several Indian states in southern India, according to local media.

They held up traffic and chanted slogans against Indian government for dropping its special status. (2014, 2017)
